Marie Segger

Hey. I'm Marie.

Promoting myself isn't my thing, but this space is actually dedicated to exactly that. Self-indulgence.

(I'm great. I promise!)

I've finished my studies at Goldsmiths College University of London with a distinction in a Master's of Science in Digital Journalism at the end of 2017.

"Digital Journalism?" your voice echoes in my head. "That means 50% coding at the computing department and 50% trying my hand at multimedia journalism," goes my routine explanation.

But it's actually so much more than that. I've coded data visualisations, created my own twitter bot with javascript and node.js and came up with, filmed and edited my own mojo documentary throughout my time at Goldsmiths.

I decided to pursue this master's degree because of my equal love for words and numbers.

And it's paid off. The course has been incredibly rewarding so far and I've tried to make the most of my time by writing for student media outlets such as London Student, EastLondonLines and smiths magazine.

In the summer of 2017 I interned with Trinity Mirror's data desk in Manchester as I was one of 6 students on the ONS data journalism scheme.

After finishing my dissertation I moved to Hamburg, Germany and worked as a Google News Lab fellow in data journalism for Germany's SPIEGEL ONLINE.

Currently, I'm working as a social media and data journalism fellow at The Economist in London.

So, what's next? I love data, news, politics (UK, EU, Germany) and emerging technologies. So, if you have a job on offer that's vaguely related to one of these things: hmu! I mean, click on Contact.
